Class C: Preseason Rankings

Inside Prep Sports/By TJ Kelley

12/4/11

Detroit Consortium is a top five team in the state regardless of class and will play the state's toughest schedule.  Beecher has Class C's best back-court and they have made it to the Breslin the past two seasons.  Traverse City St. Francis hasn't lived up to expectations the past two seasons but the Class C's best big man won't let that happen again.  Melvindale ABT has solid pieces and remnants of their state championship team from two years ago.  McBain was last year's runner-up and still have pieces to the puzzle.  Southfield Bradford Academy is my sleeper as they have a solid back-court and one of Class C's best wings.  Ecorse's front line is the best in Class C and they have help from a sophomore point guard.  Last year's Class C championship, Schoolcraft, has experience and the MVP from their title game returning.  Detroit Loyola has rugged football toughness and senior leadership in the back-court.  This isn't Lamonta Stone's, Ben Pierce's, or Lofton Greene's River Rouge but they do have talent and one of the state's best point guards.  (Read More)

Class B: Preseason Team Rankings

Inside Prep Sports/By TJ Kelley

12/4/11

Is Lansing Sexton not supposed to win the Class B State Championship?  They're the best team in the state regardless of class, B is the best Class in the state, and B has as much individual talent as any other class.  Community can match up with Sexton but they may be a year away.  Lansing Catholic and Sexton will more than likely meet early in March.  Grand Rapids Christian has solid seniors and sophomore studs that will make a run to the Breslin.  Country Day is good but down as far as Country Day standards.  Chandler Park Academy is more than a junior that committed to UM.  Crockett would be #2 if their center didn't move to Alabama.  Muskegon Heights is good and will be far more balanced than last season.  Guards rule high school basketball and E. Grand Rapids has upset power.  Welcome to Class B, Benton Harbor! (Read More)

Michigan's Class A Rankings: Preseason

Inside Prep Sports/By TJ Kelley

12/1/11

Kalamazoo Central's two-time year run as the top team in Class A will come to an end but not after they make it back to the Breslin in March of 2012.  Romulus will finally win their state championship under head coach Nate Oats.  Okemos, E. Lansing, and Lansing Eastern are the second, third, and fourth best team in the Capitol Area Activities Conference- Blue division but top 10 in the Class A Preseason Rankings.  Ypsilanti is the upstart team in '11-'12.  Pershing will have to carry the Detroit Public Schools which went through a handful of coaching changes.  The Catholic League has a couple of teams that have what it takes to make it to the Breslin.
