Michigan Preseason Teams 6-10

Inside Prep Sports/By TJ Kelley

6-10 in the countdown of the top 25 teams in Michigan include the last two Class A State Champions and they'll compete again this year as will Cass Tech.  Bloomfield Hills will make a push in Class A and Mt. Clemens is the favorite to win Class C.  Each of these teams is going through a gauntlet in December and for the most part have trying conference schedules but none of these teams won't be satisfied unless they at least make it to the big stage in E. Lansing.

6. Detroit Cass Tech- Dave Dixon heads the Technicians with a senior leadership and a steady blend of talent at each position without having a true big man.  They were runner ups to the PSL titile last year and lost at the buzzer in their regional final to Pershing both times. Key players: 6'6" 2014 power forward Isaac Bowles, 6'5" 2014 combo uard Kenny Carpenter, 6'5 2014 power forward Charles Key, 6'5" 2014 wing Mike Laster, 6'3" 2015 shooting guard Rob Edwards, 6'3" 2016 power forward Darwin Hubbard, 5'11" 2016 point guard Darwin Weiss, 6'5" 2017 forward Donnie Tillman; Key games: Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy @ Derrick Coleman Midwest Challenge (Detroit Mumford) 1/10/13, Detroit Country Day @ Battle of the Best (Detroit Renaissance) 12/21, Toronto Eastern Commerce @ PSl Holiday Classic (Detroit Cass Tech) 12/27, @ King 1/7, @ Detroit E. English Village 1/10, @ Detroit Douglass 1/21, Detroit  Pershing 1/24, Detroit Southeasten 1/28, Detroit Western 2/4

7. Saginaw- Head coach Julian Taylor has a 2012 Class A state championship followed by a Final Four appearance.  Wonder who the last Saginaw native was to get to the Bres in his first three years?  Couldn't have been that long ago.  Key players: 6'1" 2014 point guard Keyon Addison, 6'1" 2014 combo guard Malik Jordan, 6'4" 2014 small forward Jerry Smith, 6'6" 2016 power forward Algevon Eichelberger, jr., 5'10" 2017 point guard Ronquavious Southward; Key games: Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard @ Cardinal Classic 12/21, Detroit Douglass @ Battle of the Best (Detroit Renaissance)12/21, Gary (IN.) Pleasant 1/13, Saginaw Arthur Hill 1/28, Saginaw Arthur Hill 2/14, Mt. Pleasant 2/18

8. Romulus- Jarret Smith has manned the Eagles JV the last few seasons and moved up with the departure of Nate Oats.  He inherits 6am workouts, winning guards, and a key transfer.  Key players:  6'4" 2014 shooting guard Kris Clyburn, 6'2" 2014 shooting guard Juwon Clark, 6' 2014 point guard Tyron Hamby, 6'2" 2015 shooting guard Jaylin Walker, 6'8" 2015 center Rio Washington, 6'1" 2016 shooting guard D'Angelo Hansboro; Key games: Detroit Western @ Derrick Coleman Midwest Challenge (Detroit Mumford) 12/10, Romulus Winners Circle 12/20, Romulus Winner's Circle 12/21, Gary (IN.) 9. Mt. Clemens-  Last season the eventual Class C State Champion, Flint Beecher, ended the Bathers playoff run, Head Coach Jermaine Jackson,sr. and his squad gained the experience to be champions this year.  They have the depth, skill, and athleticism to beat any team in the state. Key players:  6'2" 2014 wing Devonte Bandoo, 6'5" 2015 small forward Dorain Armstrong, 6'7" 2015 power forward Gerald Blackshear, 6' 2015 combo guard Josh McFolley, 6'5" 2015 small forward Charles Penn, 5'6" 2017 point guard Jermaine Jackson, jr.; Key games: @ Detroit King 12/10, Saginaw Arthur Hill 12/17, Cincinnati (OH.) Withrow @ Motor City Roundball Classic 12/27, Chicago (IL.) Hyde Park @ Motor City Roundball Classic (Harper Woods) 12/29, @ Muskegon 2/15

10. Bloomfield Hills- 20 years ago if someone found out Bloomfield Hills Lahser and Andover were merging, they would probably think that the new school would win state championships in diving, golf, and swimming.  That still might be the case but I doubt there would be many people thinking the new Knights would be this good in basketball as Head Coach Duane Graves has senior leadership, talent, height, and enough depth to play with the big boys.  Key players: 6'2" 2014 shooting guard Armand Cartwright, 6'5" 2014 small forward Khalil Gracey, 6'8" 2014 power forward Yante Maten; Key games:  Milan @ Winter Breakout @ Milan 12/14, Chicago (IL.) Hyde Park @ Motor City Roundball Classic 12/28, Southfield 1/7, @  North Farmington 1/23, Clarkston 1/28, @ Southfield 2/19, North Farmington 2/21, @ Clarkston 2/25, @ Rochester Adams 2/27
