Great Quarterfinal Matchups

Inside Prep Sports/By TJ Kelley

There were a few surprises in last week's Regionals and some expected outcomes setting up great Quarterfinal games on Tuesday.  The 2013 Class A, C, and D Champions can still repeat and while D looks like a one horse race, it's hard to say who will win the other classes.  There's a lot of new blood and there will be a lot of tickets sold for each game at the Breslin on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Buy your ticket early as the winners of these games are headed to unchartered waters and will bring great crowds to the Semi-Final and Final games.  Six of the eight teams still alive have never made it to the Class A Semi-Finals while Romulus is the defending champion and Muskegon hasn't won since the pre-World War II era.  Each of the eight teams has had standout performances from their seniors and are huge factors in why they have made it this far.  Muskegon is undefeated and has the aura of a champion.  Whover wins the Class A games at the Breslin are setting up to be the best in a few years.

Class A Quarterfinal Matchups

Class B will have a new champion as Detroit Douglass took down their nemesis, Detroit Country Day, on Wednesday.  Class B is as much a toss up as any as to who the favorite and Godwin Heights is undefeated, however Douglass is the most battle tested, talented, and chalked full of seniors.  Their road doesn't get any easier as the Hurricanes head to Marysville to take on a very good Goodrich team and the winner of that game gets the Milan/Wayland Union winner.

Class B Quarterfinal Matchups

Many will say that Tuesday night's Detroit Consortium/Mt. Clemens game is the Class C Championship and while that's true, both team's players and coaches know that Flint Beecher's head coach Mike Williams is one of the best as the two-time defending State Champion has halted this year's favorites the past two seasons.  I also know that Muskegon Heights would love to hoist a trophy on Saturday just a few hours earlier than Muskegon if those cards play out.

Class C Quarterfinal Matchups

Class D Quarterfinal victories by Adrian Lenawee Christian, Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, and two-time defending State Champion Southfield Christian gives the Semi-Finals a ton of height not usually seen in Class D.  There have only been five schools who have won Class D championships since 2002 and Southfield Christian is looking to be the third to win three straight and the fourth to win three overall in that time frame.
